The Atonement - Apprentice Devall, Chapter 6

Ambling into that apartment was not exactly easy. Most of the ceremonial chambers I’ve visited in the past have been pure white—almost blindingly so. This one was pitch black. The only light came from several candles which were flickering, casting crazy shadows which seemed to dance in the darkness. I was shown into the apartment by a masked man. I’m pretty sure it was someone I knew, but I could barely witness him. His smell was somehow familiar, but I couldn’t fairly put my finger on where I knew the smell from. Two other masked guys were sitting on wooden chairs. In the middle of the space was a long, thin, low bench, frosted with a velvety dark-hued cloth. I didn’t like the sight of it. It scared me. I instinctively knew that something bad was stashing underneath. I stood, paralyzed, not plucky to move. A fourth masked stud entered the space carrying a glass cup filled with liquid. He limited it with reverence. It impressed me that its contents were sacred in some way. I was desperate to ask questions, but knew I wasn’t permitted to open my gullet sans permission. The stud holding the cup told me to swallow from it. His voice was familiar but I couldn’t fairly place it. I took a deep breath and did as instructed, nipping the liquid. I wasn’t sure what effect it would have on me but it was remarkably refreshing. I looked at the guys in front of me. If I was supposed to know who they were, they would reveal themselves, right? The Tormentor who’d suggested me the swallow sat down at the end of the low table. He removed his mask. It was Tormentor Napoli. Of course it was him. Of course that was his voice. My heart instantaneously commenced to fuck in my chest. Tormentor Napoli is responsible for opening my eyes to this daring fresh world. I had not seen him since my conversation but thought about him every single day. The other seated guys then removed their masks. First Tormentor Drayke and then Apprentice Blue.
