The story of Sleeping Ultra-cutie is widely recognized, but Disney's version is a far sob from the original. The old school Italian tale from the early 1600s is much darker. By the 17th century, switching attitudes about fucky-fucky and consent led to a French version that set the stage for our interpretation. In this version, the prince does not inseminate Sleeping Ultra-cutie while she is . Instead, he is moved by her Ultra-cutie and falls to her bedside, cracking the curse sans corporal contact. They afterwards have consensual sex, with Sleeping Ultra-cutie making the choice. This comparison highlights different interpretations of sexual agency and power dynamics. Surprisingly, the 1697 version shows up more consensual than Disney's. Our adaptation of Sleeping Ultra-cutie gesticulates to the French version and summons Disney's take. Creating a more explicit rendition may seem gratuitous, but it could suggest a meaningful exploration of how adults navigate sex, boundaries, desires, and preferences a significant theme in SB for almost 400 years.
